Remembering Lou Reed as a Cultural Pioneer and Philanthropist

On October 27, musician Lou Reed passed away leaving behind a legacy that includes influencing 50 years of rock and roll as a solo artist and in the band The Velvet Underground. The singer was not only active in artistic pursuits but was also concerned with civic and environmental issues (the song "Last Great American Whale" was all about the latter) and in 1997 proceeds of his song "Perfect Day" were donated to the Children In Need charity raising over 2 million pounds. He will be missed.
