A Heartwarming Leatherback Turtle Conservation Project - An experience we will never forget

An English environmentalist bought a stretch of land in Costa Rica 30 years ago and it has become a crucial stretch of beach that is significantly impacting the numbers of critically endangered Leatherback turtles.
15 years ago it was estimated that the Leatherbacks would be extinct in 10 years and it is through the lifelong efforts of people like John Denham and his wife Hilda that the numbers are slowly growing.

We got to see a 400kg turtle lay her eggs - an intensely humbling experience.

    Beautiful, Serena. I think it's great you got the perspective of someone who is a former poacher and now working to save these turtles.

      OMG and the baby turtles crawling out on the beach after they hatch!!!

        Aren't they sooo cute! I must admit some squeals did escape my lips! As much as possible they try to avoid touching them or interfering but there was one set of hatchlings we had to protect to get away from birds so I got to hold a couple - they are amazingly cute!
