I may not make a friend everyday, but I have made it a point to drop some of those filters that would keep you from talking to or smiling at someone you don't know.
I noitced when I was visibly pregnant and living in Toronto, others lost that filter too, but it was only because I was pregnant. Why not share the love no matter what? So now, if I see someone looking great, I compliment them. If I see someone struggling with something --for example, too many grocery bags-- I'll give them a hand. It's small gestures, but connections on little matters, when someone might otherwise feel invisible, keep us tethered to a community. I big friendly knowing smile goes an awefully long way. Cheers.
