"Despite the internet, our connections to each other aren't as strong as they could and should be." This is somewhat exaggerated. I don't think you can make a generalisation as strong as this.
As for a correlation between social bond and voting rate, it would be interesting to see data from other countries where indices of social coherence is high, and voting rate is also high.
I feel that Good decisions may be made with a higher probability if good information is supplied. Instead of inviting the spouses of the presidential candidate to humanise the future presidents, a focus on providing good information may boost voter turnout.
