I liked a snippet about school in Finland - kids were asked how they spent the whole session/?day - 'making dams' - that's all ?
what had they done !? they had worked together digging/building/watching water flow
what had they learned ? maybe things like hands-on team project management, scientific observation, problem-solving, innovation, physics, chemistry, construction - techniques, materials, durability, lifespan, wear and tear, incremental improvement, building on ideas, communication, assertiveness, give and take in dealing with others, team building, different roles - leader, worker, communicator, etc. - negotiation so the best idea may win, and pleasure at seeing something you created with your one hands
as well as healthy exercise, in nature, experiencing hot/cold/wet/dry in learning about and dealing with the natural world, building confidence in learning by doing, and retaining interest rather than falling asleep sitting still in a boring classroom listening to a droning teacher 'lecturing' ...
