Bidets are wonderfully refreshing. I first used a traditional bidet in Spain, a hand-held one (think kitchen-sink sprayer, but not quite) in Finland, and a Washlet in Japan. Would have killed for one in India! My preference is the reverse order listed above. Having never seen any sort of bidet in an American hotel, I just figured they weren't available here (not sure why that was my logic, but there it is). I'd love to have a Washlet in my home. Now that I know I can, I'm a little happier today.
The Puritanical aversion to bidets in the US is odd to me given the original intended function of the "hot water bottle." One might think the American prude would equate douching with "perversion" before the bidet since, my goodness, wouldn't an unmarried woman who used one lose her precious virginity? (I'm fanning myself to alleviate "the vapors" lest I should faint.)
