This is really exciting to me! I took a year-long "cluster" course about Los Angeles during my freshman year at UCLA. One of the major themes was L.A.'s car culture. So much of our past, present, and personality is tied to this sprawl -- from Venice in the west all the way to Pasadena in the east.
I of course HATE traffic as much as the other commuter driving beside me... but from the sprawl has also sprung many diverse, self-sustaining neighborhoods that are still somehow very connected.
