Pressed by work (really, who isn't?), 25-year-old Rob Rhinehart rarely had time for a meal. So he sped up the food-to-mouth experience by removing solids from the equation, coming up with his oat starch, nutrient-packed liquid replacement: Soylent. Looking a lot like a thick, brown shake, Rhinehart's concoction has raised $1.5 million in capital investment from firms in Silicon Valley and taken another $1.5 million in pre-orders. He's marketing it as a healthier alternative to takeout.
