Work yourself out of business.

Many of the non-profit directors that I know like to say, "our ultimate goal is to work ourselves out of business". For some reason, that just doesn't seem to ever happen.     I really like this. It is one of the things i love about project based work... the crazy focus and sprint toward a finish. It's something that's so different in iterative and building-up based work. Still, i think there's something to learn from this—maybe ways of blending the different perspectives. GOOD for instance is something that is such a big idea and ambition, it may not ever inherently end so long as we stay ready and willing to adapt it to the current needs. We often mention the meteor test here: "If we were struck by a meteor, would people care, would it really matter to the world?" You can't keep doing the same thing and expect the answer to always stay yes. When at some point it starts to feel like the answer may not be a definitive yes, then you need to start making it matter again. Trying new things, scary things. Disrupting the status quo. That's what has led us to this point in the evolution of GOOD anyhow. And i must say, i'm excited and nervous and thrilled to see how it all goes.

    I feel like if you did this right it would be a great way to keep yourself and your team focused on a simple, obtainable goal. It could also contribute to a fairly chaotic time.
