Why Silicon Valley Needs to Stop Fixing Fake Problems

Following up on George Packer's unpacking of the current Silicon Valley froth, Nick Bilton at NYT writes that what's going on there these days is a "local propensity for creating a product for technophile friends rather than the public." He outlines a few examples: like a home liquor delivery app and a geolocation service to alert friends or colleagues that you're running 5 minutes late. That second one just raised $6 million in funding. "Fixes for fake problems," one expert calls them.
