Why efforts to teach children "to code" need to be rethought.

I've been encountering a lot of posts on about students being taught "to code" in one way or another. While these programs are innovative, my intuition was that whatever was meant by the verb "to code", it wasn't what I mean when I talk about "writing programs".

Now, S. Grover doesn't make the semantic distinction I am making, but does address the core concern: that learning syntax and learning concepts are not the same thing, that "WHAT" does not equal "HOW" & "WHY".
