Why direct giving might be better

I was always taught that giving cash to the needy, with no strings attached, was a surefire way to fuel addiction and encourage unhealthy spending habits. New studies prove that the opposite may be true, at least in certain communities.

Give Directly is a new organization that is testing this theory in rural villages of Kenya. If their work proves to be effective (which it has to date), the method of direct giving will be a huge game-changer in philanthropy and charity.
