This so true. So many of my friends from school--let alone my family--have no idea what I'm up to. It will take time for people to fully understand design--after all, they're not living it. But we have to be ready for that challenge, provided they're interested. Keep 'em interested!

wow, great insights and very thoughtful....Thank you!

Thank you - I agree with you. Designers are creative people solvers. We are all able to evolve to serve other roles and help others think differently.

"Can you think of any other profession that looks at problems with an open and empathetic mind in order to create from an infinite amount of possibilities intelligent, appealing solutions?"

Easy! Software development. Don't fall into the "arrogant creative" trap, now...

      Software developers are designers.

      Software developers ARE designers.

Hi Emma! I agree that something like engineering or software development could also answer that question, but design is unique in that it's not as bound by methodology/ theory as software development may be. Whereas CS is largely a left brain logic-based process, design is generative and relies on abductive thinking, which encourages new and innovative ways of doing things. This distinguishes design from other fields, and is something everyone should be able to do, not just designers!

It takes a whole lot of collaborators to bring a solution to life - design functions best with and/or within software development, engineering, business, etc., and definitely not alone. Thanks a lot for your feedback!

Easy. Software development. Watch out for that "arrogant creative" trap, you almost stepped right in it.
