When Urban Design Meets Public Health

Jackie Ramirez

Health is becoming more than your individual responsibility to be active and eat healthful foods. It is about transforming communities so that the healthy choice is the easiest choice no matter where you live, work and play. I've actually never heard of these spaces being taken advantage of. It's really intriguing because these locations are close to not only where I grew up but where I live now.

Ken I agree with you, such organizations should be popping up in more communities to help revitalize neighborhoods and create healthier spaces. Let's find out if there's anything going on in Chicago in relation to activating vacant lots.

I actually just sent some information on a location to LA Open Acres on what kinds of steps can be taken for a sizable vacant space I pass everyday on my way home. Hopefully I can get in contact with the land owner and let the ideas grow from there!
