Want better student attendance? The answer just might be a washing machine.

A recent Baltimore Sun article details one principal's human-centered approach to addressing the absenteeism epidemic at her school. After listening to students and parents, she identified dirty uniforms as a barrier. One donated washer-dryer later, attendance (and test scores) soared. Instead of waiting for top-down attendance problem solving to pay off, imagine what would happen if more principals began to observe and implement smaller solutions based on the actual needs of their school?

    Really cool that this teacher thought about installing washing machines in schools. I hope other schools think of doing this too.
