During my trip through China at the end of their Olympic term, there was a big struggle to find what to do with the Birds Nest or any of the structures that were meant for this one time use. What was the solution? Segway racing and yes- another shopping mall. Filling these architecturally astounding structures is certainly difficult venture and is most often a failure. However in the case of Brazil, I find it interesting that they would put affordable housing in this project - because yes- it is public housing 101 that you should not segregate and concentrate low income minorities- it will lead to more crime and be an further degradation to the area.
