Tires Dumped in the Mississippi River? This Boatman Has Removed 67,000 of Them

The Mississippi River is one of those few natural wonders that bonds the present to the past, a source of pride and folklore. And it's also a common dumping ground for residents and passing ships. Sick of seeing barrels, tires, and furniture clogging the 'Old Muddy,' Chad Pregracke took it upon himself to clean it up. Since pulling out over 45,000 pounds of debris 15 years ago, more than 70,000 volunteers have joined him in cleaning the river of seven million pounds of waste and machinery.
