This Sailboat Delivers Local Food the Eco-Friendly Way

A dirty secret of local food is that it sometimes uses more energy in transportation, despite shorter distances—packing food in semis is just more efficient. But for cities on waterways, what if we went back to transporting food from regional farms the old-fashioned way? Vermont Sail Project is bringing food from farmers in Vermont down canals and the Hudson River to New York City.
