This Flood-Proof House Hacks Building Restrictions In New Orleans


The J-House, located in a designated flood zone in New Orleans, is in some ways a fairly typical Southern Louisiana structure. It sits 9 feet below sea level, uses a standard New Orleans housing lot (30x150 feet), and employs a shotgun-style typology. But two interwoven “tubes” dictate the design, freeing up views right through the building and bursting open to a skylight above to create a breathtaking space.
