All billionaires are hardly 'the same'. Taking a pledge to give away the bulk of their fortune, without continuing a wasteful, extravagant lifestyle, not using more than a reasonable amount of resources- say a 3000 sf home for an average family, and only 1 car each- now that would be impressive!

I have gained such a great deal of respect for Mr. Lucas because of his commitment to education. I believe we need more iPads in the hands of students and teachers. We need the best of the best in curriculum to be hired along side the best in Educational Technology to develop open source lesson plans for the iPad that any and all educators can use, and modify if necessary to best meet the needs of their students. Finally a nice chuck donated to Edmodo for them to develop the best possible app so teachers can create a totally paperless classroom! Hire me...I'll be the project manager! :) HAHA

Unfortunately, without transparency, those ipads will be given to districts that need them the least.

Lets hope this means public school funding for development of innovative curriculum that ignites creativity and inspires all to learn. It should not be used to fuel the testing agenda set forth by some of the other wealthy that are giving to education. All students deserve the arts as well as a well-rounded curriculum. Way to go George Lucas!

I was really surprised to see George Lucas sale his work... I really imagined that he would just kept his studio under his name like Walt Disney did... Even though Walt Disney wasn't Walt Disney's real name -- The Disney had a legacy from cartoons, toys(Viewmaster), even psychological studies(Did you know Walt Disney created the game 20 Questions -- A game that could tell you what someone is thinking).
Disney has a legacy of family.
Lucas has a legacy of Sci-fi...

Was really surprised, but Disney will keep it alive... From Disney pixar and harsh-policy. Marvel didn't actually wanna sell to Disney, and found it insulting. But even Disney now half-owns Marvel.

Starwars has no profanity in it or vulgarity in tenacious nature... I think Disney may do a good job... I *hope* so anyway.

George Lucas never wrote books or movies to be rich though... He wanted people to have dreams of what the future could be -- His studio could have survived on toys and remakes.
