Startups Challenged to Design Off-Grid Energy Solutions in Africa

To propel Africa past the economic barrier, it first has to plug itself in. Over two-thirds of sub-Saharan Africa is without access to electricity, and establishing a universal grid by 2030 would cost an estimated $300 billion. But what if Africa just skips the grid altogether? A $2 million challenge is asking African startups and entrepreneurs to design off-grid solutions to problems that slide under the notice of larger organizations, yet remain essential -- like a light to read and study by.
