In the United States it's all about making money, and Space X clearly would be in this for the financial gain, but there's an off chance a solar grid based in space might come at the price of FREE.

Why? Because Elon Musk, CEO of Space X and also CEO of Tesla Motors, has implemented Super Charger Stations for Tesla's to be charged by 100% solar power. Musk stated that any individual owning a Model S can charge at any station for free, for life. That's huge! And shows the social awareness of the world's new "Steve Jobs". It seems feasible he'd seek to apply that same free philosophy to something like this and find another way to make money. Ironically it was Nikola Tesla's desire for everyone to have free energy, Musk seems to be swayed by the lost inventor's kind of morals.
