    It seems a lot of people are missing the key innovation here. It's not just a loud horn, it's a two-note horn, designed to sound just like a car horn. It's about kind of sound, not just the volume.

    Drivers react instinctively to two-note car horns. They don't generally have the same instincts developed for bells or air horns.

    As a New Yorker that relies on my bicycle for daily transportation, I can't wait to have one.

    Sadly, horns of any kind in NYC are not legal. Only bells are. :/

        I stand corrected. Used to be you couldn't have a horn, in fact I once got a ticket for having an air horn and not a bell. Thanks for the updated info, much appreciated.

            I agree. No one listens for or really moves out of the way with a bell.

    Cyclists in the US seem to think they're too cool to have a bell installed, to warn pedestrians of their approach (through red lights, against traffic, on sidewalks, etc).

    I doubt they'll consider a horn cool enough to consider.

    Oh... well yes, in this case it's for their own safety, and not that of those annoying pedestrians. So maybe.

    I do not see how this is even practical. having a horn is pretty tedious... I mean in a split second they will have to decide.. Will they honk or will they use a brake? Its a good chance a person in a car wont even hear the horn and you crash into their backwindow. They would hear that though, the loud thud on their back end of the car. Those new york package people don't think about needing to yell at someone or stopping half the time they are to busy just evading everyone to even think about what anyone thinks of them being in their way. The only thing those type of people want is a reliable bike that has smooth shifting in gears and good front brake. Some may not even use brakes as you can get a tire to lock up far quicker if you know how to step on your tire to lock up the tire... It also allows you to bail off the bike if you have to.

    I only use to ride bikes when I was like a teenager. I hated gear bikes because of the SNAPPING and how sometimes the bike can throw a chain off if you are stressing the bike peddles too much. But I knew how to throw my bike out in front of me if I had to get off in an instant. I would not think... MAYBE I should use my bike horn or slam into that car... An again... if I was about to hit people(This is why front brakes are good) i could easily jump on my front tire which could easily flip me but at least not hit them... or use a good front brake to come to do the same thing.

    My bikes never had brakes so I always had to use my alternative. Either way... A bike horn is pretty retarded... Don't they already have those lil clown horn things ? honk-honk

      You haven't ridden a bike since you were a child, and you've obviously completely misunderstood the purpose of having a horn in the first place.

      We've designed the horn not to interfere with braking or maneuvering since those are the most important in an emergency. The horn is to stop someone else from hitting you - not to stop you from hitting someone else. I don't understand your argument.
