Our Food System's New Year's Resolution

Danielle Nierenberg and Ellen Gustafson of the Food Think Tank ( have big plans for 2013. How do we relieve ourselves from the environmental and societal sufferings from food waste, hunger, malnutrition and obesity? The founders of the Food Think Tank have broken these resolutions down into 13 parts, which encourage urban farming, food deserts for low-income communities, preservative-free consumption and communication with policy-makers. They ask: Where can we be one year from now?

    This is full of great stuff. I really like the idea of getting kids involved. I think part of the reason I like to cook is because I started so young, and obviously, with cookies.

      Exactly! Watching my parents cook meals directly influenced my interest in cooking with healthy ingredients. Also, food deserts with quality food is so essential for the well-being of lower-income communities!
