One of the Best Ways I've Ever Started a Morning

Gabrielle Lipton

I realize that not everyone is turned on by the word, "lecture" (parents giving talks about making good choices and college entry courses come to mind). But this series takes universal topics - happiness, money, et al - and finds everyday people doing extraordinary things to talk about them. Think of it as the coffeehouse version of TED talks. The org is popping up in cities around the world, so when you greet the day at an absurdly early hour to go (worth it!), you can know you're not alone.

Ooo maybe I'll go this month! Which ones have you been to? Is it usually a big group?

    • Gabrielle Lipton

Yes - it usually is a pretty packed house. Tickets go "on sale" (they're free, you just have to sign up) the Monday before, and they typically fill up right away, although they're also pretty lenient about letting everyone who shows up in.
I've only been to ones in New York. In December, they had three different speakers give short talks on their different careers and projects - a graphic design teacher, a nonprofit that puts on hip-hop/r&b concerts at public schools, and a guy who toured the U.S. documenting a different person's life every day. Very different, all amazing approaches to what a "career" can be.

This is an awesome resource to find speakers who specialize in specific interests. Thanks for sharing! What has been your favorite talk that you found through CreativeMornings?
