Thanks for this really great post! UN-Habitat has been working on the water and sanitation crisis in Southeast Asia and just produced a video about their work. bit.ly/1lfJDgT. A full report about the MEK-WATSAN project is also available at http://bit.ly/1t4Cekc.

Thank you for a great post, it got me really inspired to do something about the world sanitation problem. Can anyone suggest a worthwhile organization, association or project where one could volunteer to actually make a difference? Thank you for any suggestions!

I really didn't understand the magnitude of the water poverty problem until recently. I can't imagine not having a basic human need, but it underscores how lucky I am to live in a place with not only basic necessities, but so many luxuries that we take for granted as well. This piece also helped me gain a better understanding of the global problem: http://onlinemastersinpublichealth.com/water-poverty/

I some what agree with on how building too many toilets without proper infrastructure has created a mess in many places, but i don't think you can stop building toilets where people have none at all, or not recommend better more eco-friendly toilets with bio tech. Here in Nepal, proper sanitation prevents early death, so doing something is better than waiting for foundations to find there way to the Himalayas and install sensible sanitation. Well, congrats on doing things and raising awareness!

Awesome and yes, so many people in our world are without proper sanitation or clean water. I work with Patricia Arquette and her cause, GiveLove - www.givelove.org. Please do check them out. Like any cause they struggle to raise the funds for the work they are currently doing in Haiti. I love your idea to get local entrepreneurs to build businesses around sanitation. I will definitely put something out there about what you are doing and address it in a GiveLove post. Thank you!
