On the Streets of Bangalore, Volunteers Counter Sexual Harassment with Conversation

Students from Bangalore's Srishti School of Art and Design and the group Blank Noise, which combats violence against women, have started a project called Talk to Me. As the sun sets on the street Yelahanka, volunteers set up tables and invite strangers to start a conversation over samosas and tea. The goal of these Yelahanka Action Heroes: to transform the street avoided by women after dark into a safe place. “We need to build safe cities with empathy," says Blank Noise founder Jasmeen Patheja.
