'Not Just A Girl' Photos


To commemorate her daughter Emma's turning five in a truly profound way, photographer Jaime Moore and Emma chose five strong, pioneering and important women from history for her to emulate in her very special birthday portraits. They include Susan B. Anthony, Amelia Earhart, Coco Chanel, Jane Goodall, and Helen Keller. Each side by side portrait in their “Not Just A Girl” series is captioned with an inspiring quote from the woman Emma is visually channeling.

    This is a wonderful idea, but I'm not sure I would have included Chanel as someone to emulate. Although certainly an interesting historical figure, given her collaborations with the Nazis during WW2, we should engage more critical thinking about Chanel and her choices.

    I've loved seeing this circulate around the web! I saw a number of parents commenting about how to be more thoughtful with Halloween costumes this year. Why not turn this holiday into another educational opportunity! Can you imagine opening your door to tiny Amelia Earharts and Susan B. Anthonys?!

    Really great project. Jane Goodall is my fave. And this quote from the photographer is just so inspiring: "I wanted her to know the value of these amazing women who had gone against everything so she can now have everything.”
