Need Another Reason to Read a Novel? It Heightens Connectivity in Your Brain

With the Common Core State Standards, there's a renewed emphasis on reading informational texts. Well, here's another reason to keep fiction in schools. Researchers at Emory University have found that reading novels "causes measurable changes in resting-state connectivity of the brain." The researchers say "stories not only strengthen language processing regions" but also facilitate "embodied semantics." That means thinking about a fictional scenario sparks the same brain activity as doing it.
