Music Helps Dementia Patients Improve Their Memory

We all know the experience of being taken back to our past simply by hearing a song. For me, I think Starbuck's "Moonlight Feels Right" is the one. I hear that and I am instantly 5 years old, heading for my first trip to the beach. I can remember the whole day - swimming, digging and jumping in my dad's arms because I was afraid of a horseshoe crab.

It's not surprising, in that light, that many dementia patients show improvement when they're able to listen to music from their own past.
