Mt. Everest's Dirty Little Secret: It's a Dump

60 years after the first man scaled Mt. Everest, environmental activists are using the occasion to call attention to the massive amounts of garbage and human excrement that have been left on Mt. Everest's slopes. And the picture they are painting isn't pretty: Experts estimate there are about 10 tons of garbage on Everest's slopes, which includes litter (empty oxygen bottles and torn tents) left by climbers and lots and lots of human waste.
