Mixing Uses and Improving Education in the Process

As an urban designer, I'm definitely a practitioner and personal fan of mixing of uses - doing so generally makes for healthier, wealthier, stronger and more rich built environments. But what if we aren't taking it far enough? This article from Planetizen talks about "Mixed-Use Education" where schools are both physically and programmatically combined with non-educational uses, giving examples of positive outcomes.
