Kids Exposed to the Arts More Likely to Wind up as Business Owners, Inventors

Research done by Michigan State University has found that early exposure to the arts is not just a source of enrichment—it's a shared trait among science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) graduates who later go on to own businesses and file for patents. Compared to 34 percent of adults, 93 percent of STEM grads cited some form of musical discipline in their youth, suggesting that among likely inventors, the arts (and its out-of-the-box thinking) serves a vital function in their success.
