How is this feminist or punk? I know that people don't have to be "good" writers to put articles up on this site but sometimes the articles astound me. Design isn't flat and shouldn't be capable of painting a picture by literally covering it with a false message. Basquiat could be argued to be punk, but this fashion designer just took one of his iconic pieces and drew it on a barbie forehead, its not part of the clothes the company is selling. Nothing about Barbie or the fashion industry is necessarily punk or feminist.

Stuart, I understand where you're coming from, but I think it's supposed to represent a more playful spirit and attitude. It will be available in stores, along with other Barbies representing other styles, career choices, etc. So if you don't agree with her aesthetic, you could always buy the Barbie for president doll, which is also for sale - and pretty cool.

      That one, I would buy!

We'll be preemptive and name her Hillary :)

My only issue with this is the target age for barbie is like 5-10. Not that there is anything wrong with the way this barbie looks, but I would but pretty mad at my 5 year old if she cut off her hair and drew on her face with a marker to look like barbie.

In a perfect world I will say my child will never be left alone to do something like that...but I remember getting up in the middle of the night and giving myself a choppy hair cut with my kid safe scissors....

I appreciate the idea and reasoning behind this, but I would frown upon seeing this barbie available to buy in the store.
