Is plastic food packaging dangerous?

Lindsey Smith

If you've had to fight though plastic packaging to get to your food you won't be surprised to hear it can raise your blood pressure – but it's the phthalate chemicals used in the packaging that's to blame. Phthalates leach into food through packaging, so you should avoid microwaving food or drinks in plastic and not use plastic cling wrap & store your food in glass containers where possible. It's important to avoid pre-packaged food. Hopefully, phthalate will be pulled off the market soon!

I recently saw a documentary from 2009 titled "Plastic Planet," which is a foreign documentary (IMDB page here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1292648/ ) and is extremely informational in raising awareness about how much plastic we use in our lives (as individuals and collectively as societies) and how plastic impacts our health.

Thanks William! I will definitely have to check out the video. I wonder if the doc is on Netflix.
