Is 'Gaming the System' the Key to Being Successful in School?

Over at The Atlantic, college freshman Elif Koc writes that "There is a difference between being a good learner and a good student, and in high school, my peers and I learned how to be good students." They did that by learning how do the bare minimum required to get good grades. But if grades are the end-all-be-all of the high school experience, can true learning ever be achieved?
