Reminds me of Chris Arnade's favorite quote, from Katherine Boo: "There's some way in which we would prefer not to see very clearly the immense gifts and intelligence of some of the people who live in our most abject conditions. Maybe there are some things at work in deciding who gets to be society's winners and who gets to be society's losers that don't have to do with merit."

What an inspiring story! Pretty interesting that Eboni was inspired by The Gilmore Girls. We always hear how media is sending the wrong message to young people, especially girls. But in this case, a TV show sparked a positive goal. Now if we could get more TV shows and media coverage to send positive messages.

I thought that was super intriguing, too. I never watched The Gilmore Girls but maybe I should've!

I think what's most important about this story is that Eboni was resilient- and what that takes is a mindset, and support from others. Maybe the Gilmore Girls helped with that, but it wasn't the only thing. Friend groups and activities are what really probably helped her.

Super inspiring story--and I love that she is now in her sophomore year. She didn't just get to the Ivy League, she is persisting and succeeding in it! Go, Eboni!
