Inspiring 18-Year-Old Builds Water Purifier That Could Save Lives

Meghan Shea was just 18 when she developed a water filter that could help millions of people. Her device removed 99% of the bacteria using seeds from the moringa oleifera, a common tropical tree. "The beauty is we can make this device out of anything, because it's the material we put into the device, not necessarily the device itself, that purifies the water," she says. Now a freshman at Stanford University, Shea hopes to keep working on the filter and eventually get it out into the world.
