Chomsky: On Climate Change, Nuclear War


American policy failures are "accelerating the apocalypse." That's what Noam Chomsky concludes in his latest editorial, which highlights the under-reported stories relating to fossil fuel consumption, Iran and North Korea. In particular, the linguist/political observer criticized the U.S. for caving to the interests of businesses when it comes to environmental policy -- he notes that the U.S. does not have a national policy that restricts the use of fossil fuels, nor has the U.S. set renewable energy targets. Continued neglect, Chomsky writes, will have major consequences.

"It’s now being finally recognized that there are more long-term processes like environmental destruction leading in the same direction, maybe not to total destruction, but at least to the destruction of the capacity for a decent existence."
