The penalty for working on election day--to be forced to run for office in the next election. LOL Didn't classical Greece have a system of drawing lots instead of holding a vote to see who serves in office and holding the election at the end of the term in office to decide whether to all the office holder to retire with high honor, with honor, with no grade, or in disgrace?

Or, have your election on a Saturday like Australia & New Zealand. We have higher participation rates and rituals such as sausage sizzles outside polling booths.
