Our culture teaches us that, upon meeting a girl for the first time, it's appropriate to compliment her on her outfit, her hair, her height, really anything about her looks. Everyone loves compliments, right? Shouldn't that make her feel good? As Lisa Bloom writes in this article, "teaching girls that their appearance is the first thing you notice tells them that looks are more important than anything." So what DO you talk about? Once again, we must unlearn and relearn.
