How ignorant can a bank employee be and throw away historical valuables?

This morning it was on the news that an employee of the Rabobank, Netherlands largest cooperative bank, had “cleaned out” the banks safe and threw away a case with valuables dating back to the 17th century.

The question is : how ignorant can a bank employee be. Yes they most probably will not be able to place a price tag on antiquities or historical documents, but if something is stored in a safe would you not think that it is obvious that the concerning objects would have had some kind of val
