How do you empower people to eat better? By completely changing how food is sold.

Many of us want to eat healthy but fail to follow through with those intentions when the rest of our lives get in the way. Artichoke Streetside Grocers is a service concept that addresses this by selling ready-to-cook meal kits in ultra-small stores close to where people live and work. This means that people don’t have to plan out healthy meals in advance, which means they can purchase healthy and genuinely home-cooked meals on impulse as part of their daily habits.

    this is awesome, Max. What's your plan for bringing it to life? I know that in LA there's been lots of talk around realizing something like this but not sure if I can think of any successful execution yet in market.

      Thank you! That's a conversation that's still ongoing - at this point, we're mostly trying to get it out there to try and gauge interest in the idea. Depending on the response we get, we’d be interested in collaborating with someone who has expertise in the industry so we could really put the viability of this idea to the test. Do you know of any examples (in LA or elsewhere) of people who have tried to execute similar concepts? We've found a few successful examples (My Fit Foods, Plated, and some others) which are exploring the meal kit idea in different ways, but so far we haven't come across anyone who's attempting anything like this in a pop-down-type store.

        Ron Finley, whose TED Talk came out recently and really popped off, is the one person who immediately comes to mind. I'll think of who else is in the landscape.

    This is a great way to help those who are stuck in a processed food purchasing rut, or might be hesitant to cook outside of their comfort zone. Most supermarkets leave the average consumer in a state of confusion. Do we really need 20 more versions of the same "homemade" pasta sauce? Let's start challenging our perception of what convenience food could be!

      Thanks! It's really amazing how cumbersome the modern supermarket is, and how much of that experience we just accept because we're used to it. This is just one idea, and it will be really exciting to see what sort of revolutionary changes to the industry get put out there in the next decade or so. There's certainly enough potential for it!
