Hong Kong is Swimming in the Right Direction of Seafood Sustainability

After years of protest from environmental groups and animal rights activists, Hong Kong has just banned shark fin from its official menus, as well as bluefin tuna and black moss, a type of algae popular in Asian cuisine that risks over harvesting. Hailed as a step in the right direction, as many as 100,000 million sharks are killed each year for their fins alone, a delicacy in Chinese cuisine.

    I think it's really important that Hong Kong is leading the way because not only does this set a precedent for China and other Asian countries, but it also has a unique pivot to the west as well, where seafood sustainability is also a growing issue.
