Girl Power: Nigerian Teens Invent Safe Urine-Powered Generator

When Nigerian teen Adebola Duro-Aina read about members of a family dying from their generator's toxic fumes, she decided to do something. "I was sad about how people died while trying to provide electricity for themselves, trying to make their living better," she says. So she and three friends aged 14 to 15 -– Oluwatoyin Faleke, Eniola Bello and Abiola Akindele -– designed a urine-powered generator. They exhibited their invention at Maker Faire Africa and hope to start mass-scale production.
