    Hey Mallory! Thanks for sharing this great post. I think our greatest happiness lies in interacting with others and if we have a strong sense of community so many benefits can come of it. Our society now is SO interconnected and focused on social interaction-- yet we don't ACTUALLY know our neighbors and the people around us. This post reminds me a lot of GOOD's Neighborday initiative- here's the manifesto in case you haven't seen it yet:

      Thanks Hannah, I totally agree. I loved the Neighborday initiative, and the manifesto -- especially the line, " was indeed the good will, the trust, and the reciprocity—the social capital—of communities and of neighbors that made America possible." It is frustrating to me, particularly working in small towns where the idea of the 'common good' seems like it should be so universally tangible, that there has come to be a regular peanut gallery existing solely to conflate any collective good topic into political hot buttons, "socialism" and "populism" and lately "Agenda 21-ism." I don't mind a good honest political debate, but with the exception of the very rare true homesteader isolated out in nature, we're all in need of each other in ways we see daily and in ways we may not even be aware of.
