I was inspired by the amount of support I saw in my community for organizations doing great tings for the world on #GivingTuesday. I work for a non-profit and so many of my friends and family supported us on #GivingTuesday. I hope this continues to be a major part of the culture of the holiday season.

It is a Good thing to "give back" or to donate when you can, but please include necessary research to provide prospective donors, so that they know they are donating to legitimate charities. There are several organizations that provide this important information on national charitable groups, such as, which is the Wise Giving Alliance, an arm of the Better Business Bureau. WGA holds charitiable groups accountable with 20 standards. In some cases, charitable groups do not wish to be forthcoming with the information necessary to determine whether or not they can be trusted; isn't that information that would be beneficial? Also, there are groups in your community that have needs; do a bit of research and donate closer to home, if you feel comfortable doing so. A little preparation will assure that your donation(s) are going to the right place(s). Best wishes!

Great points Bill. Do you work with charities and are there any you recommend we donate to today?

Thank you for all the Good you do Every Day. Giving Tuesday, is EVERY day for many of us. :) Myself included. I am so grateful that a risk I took back in 2005 has opened my life in ways I never imagined. In Giving through actions seemingly small that add up over time. If we ALL Give what we can; through our talents, our skill set, our funds (if we have them) Imagine the GOOD! And it IS already happening!
My Story: I sold my small home & most possessions in 2005 to create/facilitate a volunteer literacy project in Belize. Donated programs for 33,000 students & 800 teachers thus far. Went Global this year to Kenya and Ghana collaborating with Artfully AWARE Story Book Project in which we collect real life stories of persistence, possibility and overcoming adversity. Every person who participates receives a free copy of the book. Here's the link to the Kenya book:
Ghana Is... comes out in 2014 (we self publish to keep costs low) Next week I travel to Haiti to take the project there highlighting stories of Passion & Perseverance. Our goal is to break down barriers and stereotypes & highlight all the amazing projects created by Locals in developing countries. The books are shared cross-culturally too. I am so grateful to be part of this project. Thank YOU again for all the Good you do Every day to make this world a better place! Hug and gratitude from my heart to yours! Kristin

Curious- how did the #GivingTuesday idea come about? Would love to hear more from the founder.

      From the #GivingTuesday website:

New York’s 92nd Street Y was the catalyst and incubator for #GivingTuesday, bringing the expertise of 139 years of community-management to the project and providing #GivingTuesday a home. The United Nations Foundation joined as partners, bringing their strategic and communications clout to the project. An amazing team of influencers then offered their ideas, contacts and wisdom to help shape and improve the concept. A powerful list of corporations and non-profits agreed to be founding partners, helping spread the word and committing to their own #GivingTuesday initiatives. Since then, countless organizations, friends and leaders have all added their support and talents to make #GivingTuesday a reality.
