Former Child Soldier Advocates for Education as Key to Peace

Grace Akallo is the founder of United Africans for Women and Children Rights. At age 15, soldiers from the Lord’s Resistance Army raided her school in Northern Uganda and forcibly conscripted her. Taken to South Sudan, Grace fought in order to survive, but later escaped. Determined to complete her education, Grace earned her master's degree and is now a spokesperson for children affected by armed conflict. "I have to do something, I have to use the life I was given for a purpose," she says.
