I've been really lucky that neither of my sons has food allergies but I have several friends whose kids have really severe ones and the doctors bills are crazy. What makes it especially hard is when folks don't take the allergies seriously, and then the kids have an allergic reaction and they have to go to the ER.

Growing up it seems like almost no one I knew was allergic to anything, but I wonder if it was just underreported or if there's something happening in our food system that makes this worse right now.
