Early Adopters: Tech Companies Among First to Support Gay Rights Issues

Big Tech — including Apple, Intel, Xerox, Microsoft, and IBM — have long been in the LGBT corner, welcoming gay employees, providing benefits, and breaking lines of discrimination as far back as 1986. "They have been first movers on anti-discrimination, on relationship recognition and now on most of the transgender issues," said Gary Gates, senior research fellow at the UCLA School of Law in an interview with Politico. The tech sector was also among the first to support gay entrepreneurs.
